Children experience pain, fear and anxiety in a different way than adults. Their coping skills are still developing, along with their ability to understand these feelings and emotions, especially when they are scared, nervous or experiencing pain. Thanks to Grandma Donna’s long career in elementary education and Grandpa Chris’s handkerchief, the Amazing Magic Hankey came to be.

It began when a child fell on the sidewalk and skinned her knee. The child was crying and the tears were flowing. Grandpa was standing nearby with a handkerchief in his pocket, he pulled it out, told the child that the hankey was magic and would help with the pain, and then he gently placed it on her knee. The crying stopped. It worked like magic.

So it began, Grandma Donna and Grandpa Chris, along with Tim Kastelein,used their knowledge and experience to write an extraordinary children’s book that can help little ones cope with stressful situations. Whether it’s pain from a scrape on the knee, or anxiety from the first day of school, oreven preventing the spread of germs, The Amazing Magic Hankey, it turns out, is truly magical.
